    Leadership

    Gary Hughes

    Founder and Chief Executive Officer

     

    Gary Hughes has over 15 years of experience in the design and development of Web-based communications, performance support, and e-learning services. Prior to founding Firecrest, he led and managed product development teams for Interactive Services and for CBT Systems, developers of online training courses. He was also a program manager on Microsoft's award-winning "Step-by-Step Interactive" program and was operations director at Advanced Learning.

     

    A graduate of Carlow Institute of Technology, Ireland, with a degree in industrial design, Mr. Hughes oversees the teams that manage Firecrest's innovative product portfolio. His focus at the company is on delivering an exceptional user experience, continuous innovation, and highly relevant business intelligence reporting.

     

    Professor Brendan Buckley, MD, M.Sc, DPhil, FRCPI

    Founder and Director of Medical Affairs

     

    Dr. Brendan Buckley has extensive experience in clinical trials and is a member of numerous independent data and safety monitoring boards for medium to large clinical trials.

     

    In addition to his role at Firecrest, Dr. Buckley is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University College Cork (UCC) School of Medicine and the National University of Ireland. He is also a Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Bon Secours Hospital in Cork and is Director of the European Center for Clinical Trials in Rare Diseases, UCC.

     

    Dr. Buckley serves as an independent expert for the Irish Medicines Board and to the European Medicines Agency, and has published extensively on both the results of clinical trials and their methodology.

     

    Jacek Skrzypiec

    Founder and Chief Technology Officer

     

    Jacek Skrzypiec has over 12 years of experience in the development of Web-based applications using Java and open-source technologies. He defines Firecrest's technology strategy and manages multiple teams responsible for the design, implementation, validation, and day-to-day operation of software solutions. He is a Certified Scrum Master and successfully introduced agile methodologies into the development of regulated software applications.


    He graduated with an M.Sc in Software Engineering from Franco-Polish School of New Information and Communication Technology (EFP) in Poznan, Poland and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST) in Paris, France.



    Nigel Hughes

    Founder and Director of Business Development

     

    Nigel Hughes is a registered pharmacist and co-founder of Firecrest. With extensive experience in clinical development, Mr. Hughes has conducted Phase II-IV trials in oncology, cardiovascular, and metabolic disease.

     

    As Firecrest's director of business development, he has global responsibility for marketing the company's suite of Internet-based products and services that definitively enhance clinical trial management. He has successfully negotiated contracts with seven of the top ten pharmaceutical companies on clinical trial projects.

     

    Mr. Hughes earned a first-class honors degree in pharmacy from the University of Sunderland in the UK.
